The NEW, IMPROVED, 4-in-1 Airplane, Helicopter & Boat Tour from Las Vegas to Grand Canyon

Want to see the Grand Canyon from top to bottom? Look no further. Try the MEGA 4-in-1 tour. This package starts like this: Airplane ride from Vegas to West Rim. Land. Transfer to helicopter. Land on bottom. Board boat, do Colorado River. Take heli to top. Plane back to Vegas. Action-packed, right? And it's all done in a day!

Frankly, nothing comes close to delivering like this tour does. NOTHING! If you truly want to see and do it all, this is the package.

The adventure starts with the plane ride, which goes over Lake Mead (the largest freshwater reservoir in the US.), Hoover Dam, the Colorado River and the stunning Mojave Desert. This isn't an ordinary plane. Not by a long stretch. It's a customized 18-passenger deHavilland Twin Otter featuring oversized windows and wings attached to the top of the cabin for unobstructed views. It's also fast as it gets you to the West Rim in under 30 minutes.

Coming up now is the helicopter ride to the bottom of the Canyon. Once you are over the edge, you make a 4,000-foot descent to the edge of the River. Time en route is about 12 minutes. The helicopter itself seats up to six people plus the pilot. Seating configuration is two in front and three in back. Each "bird" is equipped with a digital communications system that lets you talk to your fellow passengers as well as the pilot.

Colorado River

You'll land on the private landing pad and exit the aircraft. The pilot will lead you to the path that takes you gently to The River. This is not a hike. It's more a stroll, which winds through lush riparian vegetation until you get to the boat dock. Boats are owned, operated and helmed by the Hualapai Tribe. The boat is a 20-foot-plus steel pontoon craft that will take you up the river before circling around, cutting the engines, and drifting back to the dock. It's a glorious experience hearing the water rush underneath your eyes run up the towering, orange sandstone cliffs.

Back in the helicopter, you make the ascent to the top. The pilot has a little lee-way here and will take his time winding his way back to the rim before landing. It's here where you are turned loose on the Canyon and can explore on your own. I recommended you take the hop-on, hop-off shuttle from Eagle Pt. to Guano Point. and back. Eagle Pt. faces directly east from the Skywalk across a massive gorge. Guano Pt. is north and hangs on the edge where the gorge and the Canyon intersect; it's here you'll find the ruins of an old guano mine.

Try the Skywalk

There are two versions of this MEGA tour. The first one does everything I've described so far. The other includes a VIP Skywalk pass. It's cheaper to include the pass in the package than buying it on site. If you decide to go for the Skywalk, and I recommend you do, hang on to your hat. In a nutshell, the "glass bridge" is an all-glass, cantilevered platform that lets you walk 70+ feet over the edge until you are standing 4,000 feet over the bottom. The views, as you'd expect, are incredible.

Total tour time from hotel to hotel is seven hours. Time spent at Grand Canyon West is four hours, making this tour the one that gives you the most time on the ground. Is it enough? Yes. I've personally done this tour and feel it accomplishes everything you can do in a day. Bear in mind, Grand Canyon West, or more specifically the Hualapai Indian Reservation on which it resides, is 1 million acres! For the most part, the plane ride over and back will potentially let you see most of that.

Super Tour

I hope you can tell I'm a HUGE fan of the MEGA 4-in-1 tour. It's the one I recommend to friends and family who want to cover the maximum amount of Grand Canyon in a day. So far, feedback is super positive. I do want to point out that there are limited seats on this tour. Further, departures, too, are limited. Combined, you have a lot of pressure on availability. Thus these final words: If you want to try the 4-in-1, book it as far in advance as you reasonably can - Keith Kravitz
